Bassist, bandleader, and entrepreneur Howard Rumsey died on July 15, 2015 in Newport Beach, California.
Ramsey began his career playing in the bands of Stan Kenton, Barney Bigard, and Charlie Barnet.
In the late ‘40s, he began managing the Lighthouse nightclub in Hermosa Beach, California. He transformed the venue into a hotspot of West Coast jazz, and formed the Lighthouse All Stars to play every Sunday night.
Throughout the ‘50s, countless influential artists played at the Lighthouse. Ramsey’s management of the club helped West Coast jazz gain attention
